The City Woodland Initiative has been established to:
- Help local people, landowners, community groups, charitable trusts, businesses or others realise the benefits to be gained from managing Glasgow's woodland resource.
- Help with obtaining assistance or funding for woodland creation, management, maintenance and improvement.
- Promote through education and interpretation the environmental, ecological, landscape, economic, cultural and social value of the city's trees and woodland.
- Promote through training, employment, health, welfare, sustainability and other benefits to be derived from positive woodland management.
- Promote measures to help minmise tree loss and encourage replacement, where appropriate.
- Help identify the City's most valuable trees and promote their protection.
- Help co-ordinate tree planting and management with the delivery of regeneration, derelict land reclamation, social inclusion, local biodiversity action plan, environmental improvement and related initiatives.
